Annual Report 2002-2003

 Highlights for 2002-03 include:

  • Advance Australia Fairly project to promote greater understanding of the role played by people from a variety of backgrounds in NSW, included two postcard series, two seminars and a study on racism in the media
  • responded to 13,593 enquiries
  • received 1,659 complaints and finalised 1,789 complaints
  • provided over 500 workplace training sessions attended by over 12,500 people
  • Neglected Communities Forum on discrimination against transgender, intersex and bisexual people
  • Arabic-speaking workers employed for special Arabic/Islamic community training program, delivering 26 training sessions for 1,672 participants, plus six sessions for community workers
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff work with other agencies to provide first combined information forums for the Aboriginal community
  • submissions to Australian Law reform Commission and National Health and Medical research Council inquiry into the protection of genetic information
  • restructure of Board initiated to focus on core functions of complaint handling and education
